The muffler/exhaust seemed intact, so I elected not to call it in (it was 3am after a band gig). I did let him fire it into the ditch afterwards. Me: "No, I don't want to have to go back into town (45 minutes) in case you shoot your foot". 25 Our young drummer from Venezuela was riding with me, he was terribly excited that I even owned a gun (much less the potential embarrassment of a Ring of Fire POS). I am one of the few people that can say I killed a deer with a Raven. Fortunately for me, it slipped and fell on the rural asphalt, rumpity-bump, he went down, and I ran over him. It was 3am on the way home from a band gig, I was going about 50mph. I've hit several deer, and a steer, and in the half a second I had to think about it, "I hope it doesn't come through the windshield". (Very much doubt i'd ever get off my duff to That extent, but it'd be a spectacular journey.).Ĭlick to expand.Long ago, I hit a buck in a 1972 Datsun 240z (the front bumper was about 18 inches off the pavement). I love the Interior villages and will probably never move. But thinking back on BB makes me realize just how much poorer we are here, far inland.I thought at times that it'd make one heck of a cool journey to travel there on foot.I can come down the river to St.Mary's,portage across to Kuskokwim, and follow some drainage or other to the coast and spend some weeks hoofing down the beach.Maybe carry a small inflatable rubber ducky for river crossings,or an occasional paddle down along the beach. The sheer Wealth surrounding one in Bristol Bay is astounding. I think the most impressive thing i found there was that insane Wealth of critters of all kinds,of life in general. In part because of how much visibility you have there, how far you can see in practically any direction. And looking inland all you had to do was look long and carefully enough, and there'd Always be deer, and a bear or two,and all else that you know you're not seeing but it's there.Mad berries,of course. And ALL kinds of life in the ocean,of course. It's something that i can only wish for each and every youth here in AK(and elsewhere,of course).Īnd yes,i hear you about the old canneries.i spent the summer fishing for Petersen Point, north of Naknek, and loved exploring the place, and all the incredibly interesting remnants of history thereabout.(the people i was there with were from Kokhanok, and i dreamed then of one day moving to Igiugig, but it never happened.). That's just EXCELLENT,i'm so extremely happy for this young man.To have the opportunity and the support And the skills to go along with all that!!!!.
